Opening with guitar noise and huge cheer, it’s Australian bearded darling Chet Faker. He’s yet to put out an album, but the tent was filled to the brim with enthusiastic fans. A drummer, bassist and guitarist are already on stage. There’s a piano to the left and we’re expecting that seat to be filled very soon…
Best stage banter: Chet reveals that instead of a cold and flu tablet this morning, he accidentally took a sleeping pill. As a result, “I’m really, very, chilled out”.
It smells heavily like: weed. Everywhere you turn.
The crowd: 60% swaying and appreciative, 20% dudes yelling Chet Faker and Jet Fighter between songs, 20% couples making out.
Best crowd singalongs: during ‘I’m Into You’ and ‘Love & Feeling’.
Chet’s beard: makes him resemble Joaquin Phoenix in that David Letterman interview.
Sounded like: he’s a clear fave with the crowd already, so it’s exciting to know he’s got a debut album on the way. The blend of slow RnB fused jams, piano chillouts and warbling guitar was perfect as the sun shone into the set.
